Summer LogSeptember 30, 2011
Fun and busy summer. Here's the log:
  • June 10/11: Ottawa/Madawaska white-water canoeing trip with Derek.
  • July 8-10: Bruce Peninsula trip with Anita. Drove up to "the Bruce", car-camped and did a number of beautiful hikes along Georgian Bay. Free-hold swam the tunnel in the Grotto.
  • July 30 - August 1: Maggie Lake trip with Anita and friends. Hiked 14km into Algonquin Park, camped at beautiful Maggie Lake.
  • August 20/21: MKC trip with Liam. White-water canoe/kayak school. Played on Aumond's and Palmer's rapids. Liam was kayaking and I was certified as an Intermediate level white-water solo canoe paddler with Paddle Canada.
  • August 27-31: Lake Superior trip with Anita. Did many hikes along the beautiful north shore of Lake Superior. Anita's friend Lyn was our guide for some "you have to know someone" places.
  • September 3: Guelph Lake Try-A-Try: Came in 5th out of 41 in my age category. 375m swim, 10km bike, 2.5km run.
  • September 23/24: Canoed the middle and main channels of the Ottawa river with Derek. The main was awesome, had some great runs at The Lorne and Norman's.
  • September 24-29: At a cottage with D&L, R&L, G&H and Anita. Great, relaxing time.
Try-A-TriSeptember 03, 2011
Competed in my first supersprint Triathlon. 375m swim, 10km bike and 2.5km run. Finished in 46m:25s, came in 5 out of 41 in my age category and 35 out of 380 overall. Full stats at sportstats.ca
Ottawa River - Middle ChannelJune 13, 2011
Derek, Matty and I paddled the Middle Channel of the mighty Ottawa River last weekend. Video here. Matty also took some video with a GoPro camera on the front of his kayak. Don't forget to switch to 720p when watching.
Elora Gorge in MayMay 30, 2011
Derek and I paddled the Elora Gorge a few times in May. Water levels were nice and high - about 30 cubic meters per second (cm/s). Some fun fill-your-canoe-with-water hydraulics to play with. Plenty of surfing waves too. I've put a quick video together. Change to 720p and go full screen for the best effect. Here's the video.
Winter Camping - Silver PeakMarch 21, 2011
Photo album from a 3-day winter camping trip in Kilarney Park is up. Day two we ascended Silver Peak by snowshoe. Great trip.
